Body & Design
Bodum Coffee Grinder Review: We can probably safely assume that Bodum wanted a more playful design scheme that strays away from the typical form factor and appeal of conventional grinders. Available in five colors: White, Black, Green, Red, and Orange, the Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder is a refreshing change from the usual black-silver finish of many espresso/coffee makers and grinders. Looking at the Bodum, especially the colored ones, a playful tone with a funky appeal is really a love-it or hate-it thing, but kudos to Bodum for coming up with something unique in terms of style.
Large Bean Hopper with Easy Stepped Adjustment
A dedicated bean hopper should naturally come with a large hopper, and with the Bodum Bistro Grinder, we can say that we are quite satisfied. The Easy Stepped Adjustment feature allows you to easily and continuously adjust the fineness settings of your grind. With 14 settings to choose from, go from standard to French press style with just a simple turn of a button. A nice add-on is a 20-second timer; this could be handy at times when you need to do something else while the machine is grinding.
Borosilicate Glass Catcher
Bodum Coffee Grinder Review: Though having a somewhat geeky name, a Borosilicate Glass Catcher is basically a better option than typical plastic catchers. Why? Have you ever noticed at times that coffee ground seems to stick to the side of plastic containers? That’s because of static, and plastic contains tons of it; hence coffee sticks to the sides and seems to “jump.” With Borosilicate Glass, static is greatly reduced, allowing you to utilize all of your coffee and maximize its use.
Easy to Use, Easy to Clean
The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder’s straightforward approach to grinding coffee beans is commendable, not having to go through extra knobs and buttons just to grind is how a dedicated grinder should function, simple and effective. Remember to clean the hopper regularly, it pops right off easily. A weekly or bi-weekly frequency is sufficient, with the occasional soap and water combo as needed.
Bodum Bistro Grind Quality
Running the first few grind tests for the Bodum Bistro Grinder yielded an overall favorable result. Though it has some inconsistencies in terms of uniformity, it actually provided good performance for its price range. This machine will be best used when paired with a pressurized Portafilter, but grind fineness will fall short on non-pressurized machines.
The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder presents an affordable and easy to use option for a dedicated burr grinder. Granted, it does not have advanced features found on other higher-priced devices, but this actually helped Bodum bring the Bistro Electric’s price down while still maintaining good performance. A very nice price-to-performance ratio indeed, which will satisfy most users.
