A year past today, we heard several people stacking things in their houses just to make sure that they don’t have to leave their places and go out. Most of the food and edible stuff comes in plastic bags that are useable too and even guarantee for keeping your food okay for a considerable time span. But a mere sheet cannot stop living things from the reach of food too. To make sure that you save your food from getting wasted and stored for a long time, you should look up to what you are saving it all from.
These are the few basic things you are fighting against. To keep your food safe, all you gotta do is eliminate each of them from storage. How? Let’s see. Looking forward to the first thing that you need for storing your food safely. Containers.

The second step is to keep your food vacuumed. It seems a bit weird at first but once you do it, trust me it’s the best thing you’ll have to save your food. for this purpose, you can use several things. People actually use vacuums for storing fruits too. Some dried food techniques also work for meat and chicken. They are ready to use foil bags that come in very convenient sizes so you can fit anything in them. These bags get sealed easily with heating. By that, I mean using an iron to seal them. You can place your food items in these, seal them and place them into your containers. Pretty simple right?

Bay leaves for extra care:
When people say plants and greenery are good for life. Uhhhh, not for all lives. I am talking about bay leaves. Certain living things have allergies to certain other living things. Bay leaves and mites and bugs have a similar relationship. They cannot stand the scent or presence of these leaves. So, be friends with these lovely leaves and keep your food away from mite. To be extra sure and careful you can add these leaves in your food stores so the bugs stay away from them at all costs.
Oxygen absorbers, your magic spell:
But wait a minute, I didn’t say anything about the vacuum. Let me explain, foil liners keep your food safe from mites and all. But what actually works as a vacuum is oxygen absorbents. How do they work? These small packets work like magic. You place them in your containers and after a few hours, you can see the magic happening. Ohh, wait! Make sure to seal your bags first. After a day or so, you can clearly see the packet ready to store. All the air present in the bag is sealed and your food looks as if you have it painted with silver spray paint. Source
Let me sum it up for you, place a liner, add all the food you want to contain in it, place the oxygen absorbers in, seal the bag, and after a few hours close the container and you’re done.
Do you want to store it in a different way? Well, segregation and making packets according to your use is your own choice and right. Many people like to keep their food items stored in the form of monthly using packages. For that ill suggest the following procedure.
Making monthly packets:
Take plastic zipper bags. Why now? Because you can keep your food segregated by that. Make packets of the beans and grains you want every month or in a particular month. Doing so opening each bucket will allow you to spend a comfortable and full of options month of eating without opening another container.
Place packets of beans, grains, spices, and all the stuff in separate plastic bags and zip them while leaving a few inches of the zip open. Don’t forget to put bay leaves, just to be sure. Now put these packets into the foil liner that is already placed in the container of you. Makes sure that you leave no extra space int
the foil liner. After this, place the oxygen absorbers into the foil and seal it. The rest just sits and chill, until it, all gets suer vacuum-tight. Later, you can close and relocate your content anywhere you want until your desired month comes. With this procedure, you can make twelve containers for twelve months and get free from all the worry.
No sorting and storing one item at a place:
For people and families who want to store each item in a separate container, you don’t have to feel stressed. It is actually simpler. Just place the liner in the container, add the item you want to store. Place bay leaves in the middle, so you don’t have to worry about mites and bugs. Seal the bag after adding oxygen absorbent packets and sealing the container, but make sure it’s airtight.
Extra Caring Tip:
There’s another thing that can be used for keeping your rice safe from every small insect for a while when not in an airtight environment. This is turmeric. If you have huge stores f ice in your house and you can’t go and buy containers right now. Place them in any container openly and add a small amount of turmeric. But remember it is only a temporary and unstable way of storing it. If ignored or forgotten, it might get insects in it. But still not as bad as leaving them without any protection.
Other grains can be hard to handle too, all you should do is store them with care once and for all. You will be able to spend a carefree time and will have all the food items right at your house. Keep in mind that these are for food items that are dry. You cannot store milk and dairy products like this. Nor can you get to store paper products with this vacuum thing.
Following these suggestions, I guarantee that you won’t ever have to throw anything out. Plus, you can store a whole year’s bulk food in no time and in a small place. You can even store stuff when it’s cheaper. I guess you won’t be able to understand if you are not a South Asian. It’s a cool thrifty trick here. People buy vegetables and cereals in bulk to use them throughout the year. That’s a real funny thing, but they know best when it comes to storage. So, use these tricks and you’re good to go.
